No two medical schools are the same. From one school to another, differences abound: in values, missions, goals, expectations of their students, and learning environment, including unique elements or traditions that define them. This month, we are highlighting the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences F. Edward Hébert School of Medicine (USU). For Dr. Acosta, becoming a doctor was something he knew he wanted to be even as a child. But getting there wasn't always easy. Without the important people in his life who inspired and motivated him to pursue a career in medicine and never give up, he wouldn't be where he is today. In this article, he reflects on those special people and how they supported his journey.



Dr. Acosta currently serves as the AAMC's chief diversity and inclusion officer.

On Friday, March 17, more than 17,000 U.S. medical school seniors learned where they will spending the next three to seven years in residency training during Match Day celebrations around the country. Match Day is the culmination of all the hard work and dedication during medical school and is where medical students will learn where they'll complete the next phase of their medical training after graduation.
