This is a reminder that pre-health and health professional students are invited to participate in the upcoming AMSA national Fall Conferences<http://www.amsafallconference.org/>, hosted by the AMSA Chapter and administration of Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, on Saturday, November 14, and the AMSA Chapter and administration of the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago, on Saturday, November 21. All information can be found at www.AMSAFallConference.org<http://www.AMSAFallConference.org>.

The theme of the NYC conference is Humanity at the Heart of Health Care<http://amsafallconference.org/new-york-program-of-events/>, and will feature four programming tracks: Addressing structural racism and health inequalities; Using the tools of Narrative Medicine and Medical Humanities; Ethical and humanistic care at the frontiers of medical technology and innovation; and Exploring the skills and competencies necessary for residency. The program will feature Sayantani DasGupta, MD, MPH<http://sayantanidasgupta.info/> as our morning keynote speaker, addressing the power of narratives for improving patient care, patient advocacy, and provider well-being. The afternoon workshops are designed as skills-building workshops to support pre-health and health professional students’ competencies in addressing structural racism and implicit biases; compassionate communication with patients on difficult or uncomfortable topics (including breaking bad news); and talking with patients about palliative and end-of-life care.

The theme of the Chicago conference is Communication at the Center of Care<http://amsafallconference.org/chicago-program-of-events/>, and will feature four programming tracks: Compassionate communication with patients; Effective communication within the healthcare team; Impassioned communication for patient advocacy and community engagement; and Exploring the skills and competencies necessary for residency. The program will feature Catherine Wallace, PhD<http://www.catherinemwallace.com/>, as our morning keynote speaker, addressing the power of narratives for improving patient care, patient advocacy, and provider well-being. The afternoon workshops are designed as skills-building workshops to support pre-health and health professional students’ competencies in deep listening (through the use of Medical Improv); interprofessional collaborative practice; and advocacy (patient advocacy and policy advocacy).

For students, AMSA has created an opportunity for discounted group registrations<http://amsafallconference.org/>. For groups of 5-9 students, the registration is a flat rate of $54 per person; and for groups of 10+ students, the registration is a flat rate of $49 per person. These group rates are available to students irrespective of AMSA membership. Group registrations should be initiated by the Early Bird Deadline of October 25.

I'm happy to address any questions you may have.

Best,

Jeff
