WEILL MEDICAL COLLEGE POSITION DESCRIPTION


POSITION SUMMARY

The Piskounova Lab focuses on understanding the process of metastasis, specifically on the metabolic and post-transcriptional adaptations that occur in cancer cells as they progress through the metastatic cascade. We use patient-derived xenografts of melanoma and pancreatic cancer to model metastasis in vivo.

The Lab Manager / Research Technician will head an energetic and cutting edge cancer research team, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the laboratory and participating in ongoing research projects. He/she will coordinate purchasing and inventory for the laboratory, ensure safety requirements are met, procedures are outlined and followed, and trainings are up to date. He/she will also perform experiments under the general supervision of the Principle Investigator and Research Fellows, and be able to work effectively both independently and collaboratively to execute experiments and management tasks. Located in the new Belfer Research Building at Weill Cornell Medicine, the position will be an integral part of a diverse and expanding research team. The successful applicant should have a strong interest in biomedical research and two or more years experience in a research laboratory setting. Prior experience working with laboratory rodents is desired, but not essential.

ACTIVITIES

  *   Organize equipment and reagents. Place orders as needed. Ensure laboratory is in compliance with safety and environmental regulations

*         Liaise with vendors, service personnel and laboratory administration

  *   Culture and manipulation of human cell lines and xenograft tumors, including drug administration and RNA interference experiments
  *   Immunohistochemical and immunofluorescent stains; DNA and RNA analysis, including QPCR; western blotting;
  *   Mouse necropsy, tissue/fluid collection and processing for molecular biology, metabolomics, immunohistochemistry and flow cytometry.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
*         Bachelor's degree in Life sciences or a related scientific discipline with two years experience or a Master's degree with requisite knowledge and skills

  *   Experience with computer systems including web-based application and Microsoft Office suite. Experience with relational databases (e.g. Filemaker Pro) and image software (e.g. Adobe Photoshop) is preferred.
  *   Excellent communication skills.


HIGHLY DESIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  *   Prior experience with breeding and experimentation of laboratory rodents preferred but not essential
  *   Background in mammalian cell culture and/or molecular biology
*         Ability to work both independently as well as in a team
