Putting it simply, the basic issue that concerns me is what gets taught and assessed in critical thinking courses, which we all assume includes attention to argument. Do we teach and assess facility in providing and appraising justification of all sorts, or facility in and resistance to persuasive techniques of all sorts, or if both, what share of total course time and energy is devoted to each.
