POSITION:                          Program Coordinator

REPORTS TO:                    Department Administrator, Diane Hauser


DEPARTMENT:                Family Medicine and Community Health



SUMMARY:                        Provides program and administrative support to the Mount Sinai Department of Family Medicine and Community Health operated by the Institute for Family Health.

The Institute for Family Health (IFH) is a non-profit organization committed to providing comprehensive primary health services to disadvantaged communities.  In addition to operating 27 health centers in the Bronx, Manhattan and upstate New York, the Institute leads and operates the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at Mount Sinai Medical Center.  The Department is responsible for conducting research, teaching and mentoring in family medicine within the medical school, and overseeing the Harlem Residency in Family Medicine.

We are looking for an energetic staff member with good attention to detail to assist in our new and growing department. This is a great opportunity for a recent graduate or part-time student to gain experience in the fields of health and non-profit administration, grant writing, management, and research.  The program coordinator will work with a team of staff, including the Department Chair and the Department Administrator.  The Department is responsible for scheduling and oversight of medical student and resident activities, as well as assisting with research projects.  This is a full-time position located at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine.

The program coordinator will work independently on a variety of activities, including:


  *   Assist in grant development and management;
  *   Coordinate activities and documents for research projects;
  *   Maintain files related to departmental faculty appointments and hospital privileges;
  *   Organize, schedule, and document student training experiences;
  *   Schedule and prepare documents for meetings;
  *   Provide general office support.


The program coordinator will also support the Department staff on an ad-hoc basis. S/he will be asked to:


  *   Proofread and correct documents such as letters and reports;
  *   Write cover letters and other short documents;
  *   Complete forms for grant applications and reports;
  *   Assist with internet research;
  *   Assist with mailings, phone calls, and record keeping;
  *   Complete other tasks, as needed.

Job Requirements:

  *   Bachelors Degree
  *   Demonstrated office or other relevant experience (internship/volunteer work is acceptable)
  *   Exceptional organizational and time management skills
  *   Excellent written and verbal communication
  *   Outstanding interpersonal skills
  *   Ability to work independently and as part of a team

*         Very proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word

*         Significant facility with the Internet

*         Experience or interest in the health field is preferred.
