Harm Reduction and Mental Health Project

The Power of Pets: Narrative Stories of Companion Homeless Pets and Their
Role in Harm Reduction

A primary focus of The Space at Tompkins is to work with individuals from
the transient homeless community, and many of these individuals keep pets
while they are on the streets or in transitional housing. These pets serve
many roles for their owners including: companionship, a reason to control
drug use, and sometimes financial planning. The Space's goal is to
integrate these special animals into our harm reduction strategies.

Andréa Stella is the Executive Director of The Space at Tompkins and holds a
Master's in Public Health from Hunter College. Ms. Stella has worked within
the New York City harm reduction community for over five years, and her
primary focus is syringe access for transient homeless individuals

When: Friday, January 27, 2012 from 3:00 to 4:30

Where: New York University, 6 Washington Place, Room 159, NYC, NY 10003

The members of the Mental Health and Harm Reduction Project organizing
committee are: Michele Stocknoff, LMSW ([log in to unmask]), Kathryn
